The Decision
We knew we wanted the Caribbean, but we also knew asking family to get passports during Covid was too much. St. Thomas was the perfect compromise. No passports required, direct flights, and incredible scenery.
The Location: Secret Harbor
We chose Secret Harbor Beach. It is smaller and more intimate than Magens Bay, and the sunset lighting is perfect. The man who married us happened to grow up in our same hometown in the Midwest — one of those weird Caribbean coincidences that makes the islands feel small.
The Details
Mallory wore a custom hook bracelet made by Terrell and Jana at the St. John Bracelet Company. The hook means the sea will always bring you back. We kept it simple: close family, a beautiful beach, and a dinner afterward. No massive production, just the people who mattered in a place we loved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it hard to get a marriage license in St. Thomas?
No, the process is straightforward for US citizens. You apply through the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, usually by mail beforehand, and pick it up when you arrive.
Do I need a wedding planner?
We highly recommend a local coordinator. They know the vendors, understand island time, and handle the logistics so you can actually enjoy the day.
What is the best beach for a wedding?
Secret Harbor and Lindquist Beach are excellent for smaller, more intimate ceremonies. Magens Bay is beautiful but very public.
