Jessy was waiting at the airport when we landed. By the end of the next day she had shown us more of Roatan than most visitors see in a week. She is the reason we understand what Roatan actually is.
We use Roatan as our gateway to the Bay Islands — fly in, spend time with Jessy, catch the ferry to Utila. Nine days later she was back at the dock to take us home.
Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands off the northern coast of Honduras, sitting on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest coral reef system in the world. Crystal clear water, world class diving, and white sand beaches make it one of the most underrated Caribbean destinations for American travelers.
