St. John, US Virgin Islands

St. John

Twenty minutes by ferry. Completely different island.

We always make several trips over to St. John every time we vacation in St. Thomas. The hiking is extraordinary, the beaches are some of the best in the Caribbean, and every visit feels like we are discovering something new even after all the times we have been.

St. John sits twenty minutes from St. Thomas by ferry and two thirds of it is protected national park. Hiking trails wind through the jungle past colonial sugar plantation ruins, Taino petroglyphs carved over a thousand years ago, and the occasional deer watching you from the tree line. The snorkeling at Waterlemon Cay is some of the best in the USVI. The Reef Bay trail ends at a secluded beach most visitors never reach. In Cruz Bay there is a small jewelry shop run by a husband and wife where we had something custom made that became part of our wedding.

St. John has a way of doing things like that.
