St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

St. Thomas

No passport required. Our home base.

St. Thomas is the easiest Caribbean island to reach from the US — and the easiest one to get wrong. Most visitors stay too close to the cruise ship crowds and leave thinking it is fine but nothing special. It is considerably more than that if you know where to go. We have been here more times than we can count. We got married here. We keep coming back.

The island runs on taxis and beach days. The water at Magens Bay will stop you in your tracks. Sea turtles feed in the seagrass if you get there early enough. The ferry to St. John takes thirty minutes and opens up a completely different island. Mountaintop has the best banana daiquiri you will find anywhere.

No passport required for US citizens. That alone makes it the perfect starting point for anyone new to Caribbean travel — and the perfect base for people who already know exactly what they are looking for.
